Welcome to Desert Seeds on Mead!

Why pay for desert plants and trees that are easy to grow? And sometimes they are really expensive, too! I think I can provide what you need to get started and you will save a lot of money!

About My Project

How I got started...

A while back, one of my dad's friends was visiting and noticed that we had seeds all over the ground. He just happens to have a degree in horticulture and realized that our tree was in a producing year.  But more than that, our Desert Ironwood had produced an excessive amount of seeds. He explained that they normally produce very few seeds and sometimes, maybe a few more every fourth year. But it was basically money on the ground waiting to be picked up. So I started picking up seeds and learning about Desert Ironwoods.

Currently I only have the Desert Ironwood Tree seeds... a lot of them. But I do plan to offer other varieties as they become available.

I'm just a high school junior, and payment systems are expensive. So for now, I'm just using Zelle because it's free.

About Desert Ironwood Trees

Just the facts...

  • The Desert Ironwood is very drought tolerant. Perfect for the climate in the Valley of the Sun. They don't mind the hot climate or the bad soil.

  • Known for it's very hard, dark wood. And it's heavier than it seems it should weigh.

  • The wide canopy is very open with hairy leaves, each with a small thorn.

  • Trees can get up to 30 feet tall and 30 feet wide if not trimmed. Some people shape them into a bush shape so it doesn't look like a tree.

  • In early summer, under the right conditions, the tree can have pinkish-purple blooms that will produce seed pods.

  • The beanshaped seeds are actually edible. Some say they taste like peanuts.

What People are Saying...

Helen spent hours raking, sifting and gathering the seeds. And she was in competition with the birds for the seeds, so she had to work diligently. Plus, learning about selling online is a bonus.
